First signs of Spring

Spring is on the horizon and some winter hardy plants are producing lush new growth.

Shallots planted around mid-winter have been rooting in a 20 litre Air-Pot container and are now showing lush green shoots. They will now multiply, then bulb-up, forming clusters which will be ready to lift around mid summer.

Raab, a miniature broccoli-like brassica has filled its container. It was sown in September and grew right through the winter with no protection. It is actually related to turnips and produces tasty leaves & flowers. These are like tiny heads of broccoli and are now just starting to form.

Also some welcome Spring colour from these early flowering Iris Reticculata (dwarf Iris).
